New Era in Orange County HS Football Begins

Posted: Updated:

The Orange County Football team struggled the past two seasons with a record of 1-9. Garret Johnson, Orange County's Quarterback said, "Yeah, I mean 1-9 is not what anybody wants. This year I think we're ready for it. I mean we're definitely playing like it right now."

It won't hurt that the Fighting Hornets are making the switch back from AAA Football, to AA. In fact the guys say it will only work in their favor.

Orange County wide receiver Damian Clark said, "Now we've experienced harder teams, so I feel like when we come back we'll be pretty good." Johnson agreed, "We're gonna be faster, not saying that AA is easy but AAA is fast and I think its gonna work to our benefit."

The team has a new head honcho as well. Keita Malloy is in his 21st year of coaching. He's served 14 years as a college coach - most recently at Old Dominion - and 7 years as a high school coach. Malloy played in college at the University of Delaware and says he hopes to give his players what his college coach, "Tubby" Raymond gave him. Malloy said, "Discipline, commitment and just hard work. You win one game last year and one the year before - there's nowhere to go but up so we're looking forward to the challenge and hopefully we make a playoff run this year."

Clark said, "He's a great coach. If we get disciplined, we can beat anybody."

The team says they're eager to get on the field and get some W's.

Johnson said,"Just to win. Work hard and win." Clark added, "It would mean everything, that would be the greatest gift in the world."
