Gov. McDonnell's Son Found Guilty of Drunk in Public

Posted: Updated:

Governor Bob McDonnell's son was found guilty of being drunk in public in Charlottesville General District Court Monday morning. Sean McDonnell, 21, pleaded not guilty, but a judge found otherwise.

The University of Virginia student was sentenced to pay a $25 fine.

McDonnell's attorney says he was unsteady on his feet because he was helping his girlfriend, who was wearing high heels, cross the tracks when he was arrested last month near Wertland Street in Charlottesville.

An officer testified he was unsteady on his feet, but there was no field sobriety test or blood alcohol test presented as evidence.

McDonnell has 10 days to appeal.
