The Nelson County Football team is breaking old habits and turning a new leaf.
The Governor's quarterback Ceasar Perkins said, "A big problem here is absence has been a problem in the past with kids not showing up to practice and they want to come out on game day. We just want to hold everyone accountable for their actions and make sure everyone's on the same page."
"We're out here working as hard as we have been all summer, and I think they're really gonna see a change this year," said wide receiver, Ceasar Perkins.
After finishing their 2012 football season 2-8, the team has a new coach, Mark Poston, whose hoping to turn the program around - but he understands this transformation won't happen overnight. Poston said, "There's a lot of things that we gotta get right, and its everyday. I mean its an everyday battle because your trying to change culture. And that takes a long time, and its a day-to-day battle."
The Governors new coach runs an up-tempo, no huddle offense. Galloway says it will be an adjustment. He added, "We're running a whole new system and we're gonna be running a play every 8 seconds which is a new thing for me. I've been in a huddle offense my whole life and we're going to be running a spread no huddle. So its gonna be really fast and electric."
The guys say they took the off season very seriously and aim to have a winning season in 2013. Poston said, "In this business, you never stay the same. You're either getting better or your getting worse. We want to eliminate excuses and increase commitment levels. Perkins added, "We're gonna just get to the point and we're gonna show them what Nelson's all about this year.
