Albemarle Involuntary Manslaughter Case to See Grand Jury

Posted: Updated:

The involuntary manslaughter case against a driver involved in a deadly crash in southern Albemarle County is moving to a grand jury.

Jerry Christopher Johnson, 47, waived his right to a preliminary hearing Thursday morning in Albemarle General District Court.

On March 29, police say Johnson was driving a pickup truck when he crossed the double line on Irish Road and hit another car head-on. The driver of that car, 26-year-old Andrew Curt Lawhorne of Schuyler, was killed.

Johnson was injured and treated at the University of Virginia Medical Center. He is also charged with driving under the influence.
