Albemarle Trains New Teachers for Upcoming School Year

Posted: Updated:

School starts in Albemarle County in just two weeks - on August 21 - and to prepare, the county is training all of its 95 new teachers this week.

Wednesday's session of "New Teacher Academy" offered them guidance on policies and different teaching techniques.

One of the new teachers, Carolyn Ramwell, is a nurse making a career transition.

"I think it lets you teach outside the box from that traditional lecture and listen and Albemarle County really embraces the new paradigm that we need to facilitate the learner as opposed to lecture the learner," said Ramwell.

Ramwell will teach a new course called health and medical science but she plans to continue nursing as well.

New teachers will go to their classrooms for more training Thursday.
