Posted: Updated:

A woman and child are in the hospital following a single car accident in Albemarle County.

The crash happened around 9:30 p.m. Sunday on Richmond Road near Boyd Tavern Store in Keswick.   The female driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into some trees. She had to be cut from the overturned car.

Emergency crews airlifted the driver to the University of Virginia Medical Center and took the passenger - a child - by ambulance.

Richmond Road was shut down from Black Cat Road to Zion Crossroads for a short time while crews were on the scene.

According to the UVA Medical Center, the child has been discharged from the hospital and the woman is currently in critical condition.
