Flucos Ready To Fly With The Start Of A New Football Season
Fluvanna County head coach Jason Barnett
The Fluvanna County football team was on the practice field bright and early Thursday morning.
Head coach Jason Barnett is now in his 5th season with Fluvanna.
He says there will be open competition for the starting quarterback job this year, but he's eager to get things going and see what his team looks like.
"This is one of those days we always look forward to," says Barnett. "It's like Christmas for coaches out here in the area. We're just really excited to be out here, and have another chance to put forth a really solid football team, and it's just one of those days that you always look forward to."
Flucos senior OLB/TE Jesse Lokits says, "Feels good. I'm excited for a new year. The team is looking pretty good right now. Everybody's real excited to come out and play, and I just can't wait to start hitting."
Barnett will be taking over as offensive coordinator this season, after coaching on the defensive side of the ball in years past.
"It's one of those things I'm really excited about," says Barnett. "Having gone against offenses for so long, you feel like you want to take control on that side. It's one of those things I think the kids are going to latch on to, and it's going to breed some excitement, hopefully."
Lokits says, "The tempo is a lot more this year. There's going to be a lot more hitting. A lot higher pace. The new kids coming up better get ready, because it's going to be a whole new game."
