Business Alliance Gets First Member from VA

Posted: Updated:

A downtown business is the first of its kind in Staunton and leading the way in Virginia.

16 West by Virtually Sisters is a place where entrepreneurs share a professional office by day and by night it's a venue for all kinds of happenings. According to its website, 16 West is "a shared space" that offers "affordable ways to work, collaborate and showcase/sell products and services."

Now the forward-thinking business is Virginia's first member of the Business Alliance for Local Living Economies, or BALLE, network. It's an umbrella for enterprises working to provide sustainability in the local economy.

"Provide support services, promotional activities, a clearinghouse website where all this information, the great initiatives, and the green movement, local food movement and community capital opportunities for people in business," said Karen Lawrence, co-owner of 16 West.

Owners say they hope to be fully functional within the BALLE network in three months.
