Charlottesville Albemarle Convention and Visitors Bureau
Charlottesville, VA (July 29, 2013) – The Charlottesville Albemarle Convention and Visitors Bureau (CACVB) today announced the Summer 2013 Tourism Sponsorship Program is now open, with August 9, 2013 as the deadline for submitting applications.
The purpose of this sponsorship program is to provide matched funding of up to $7,500 per applicant for "tourism-related initiatives," provided that applicants meet the requirements and follow prescribed guidelines and responsibilities as outlined in the CACVB Tourism Sponsorship Program and CACVB Policy Statement. Those interested in applying can access information and application by going to www.visitcharlottesville.org/sponsorships or emailing, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Primary focus will be given to applicants who can demonstrate that their initiative can "increase visitation and/or exposure of the destination through promotional efforts." Applicants that have already been approved to receive ABRT (Agency Budget Review Team) marketing funding in this fiscal year (July 1, 2013 – June 30, 2014) will not be eligible to apply for this sponsorship funding.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for local organizations to leverage their marketing efforts as partners with their local tourism office," said Kurt Burkhart, CACVB Executive Director. He encouraged those who are considering an event or festival to work with the CACVB to
identify soft periods of the year, or shoulder-season months, so that "we can maximize overnight hotel stays by visitors to our area."
Brigitte Bélanger-Warner, CACVB Director of Sales & Marketing also pointed out that, "there is tremendous opportunity for local organizations to significantly impact tourism in our area, as they plan events at times of year when, historically, hotel occupancy is at its lowest and rates are the most affordable."
The CACVB plans to notify award recipients in August.
