Phillip Sims Transferring to Winston-Salem State

Posted: Updated:

Former UVa quarterback Phillip Sims announced via Twitter Sunday night that he is transferring to Winston-Salem State.

"I'm the newest member of the #wssu fam", Sims tweeted.  "I am thankful for this opportunity that I've been given."

Winston-Salem State is a member of the Division II CIAA.   The Rams had a record of 14-1 last season, their best in program history.

Sims played 12 games at UVa last season, starting four, splitting time with Michael Rocco.    Sims completed 114 of 203 passes for 1,263 yards and nine touchdowns.

Sims fell to third on Virginia's depth chart heading into Spring practice and UVa announced that Sims was academically ineligible in early June and Sims would leave the UVa after the summer session.
