LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) - The plentiful rain has plumped up a sweet Virginia crop.

Peach growers say the rain has resulted in larger-than-normal fruits.

Scott Barnes of Morris Orchard in Monroe told the News & Advance his peaches are going to be the biggest they've been in a few years. With the arrival of more sunny days, he expects a nice crop.

Peaches need a good dose of sun to ripen and sweeten.

Even though rain dampened the early part of July, growers say their fruits are especially flavorful.

On the negative side, agricultural agents say the wet, hot and humid weather has increased the prospect of disease.
