Staunton Councilman to Host Forum on Racial Profiling
A prominent figure of Staunton
wants to talk openly about racial profiling and he's invited the town.
Councilman Ophie Kier is
hosting a public forum Wednesday, August 7. Kier says the death of Trayvon Martin is
evidence that racial profiling exists, something he says his grandsons
shouldn't have to worry about.
"They have the right
to walk the street at night without fearing somebody following them, because of
who they are, or because of the color of their skin. That's just about as
atrocious a thing going on as could happen in this society today," Kier said.
The forum is at 6:30 p.m.
at Staunton City Hall, although City Council isn't sponsoring the event.
Kier says all are welcome
with one requirement: everyone must come with civility, respect for each other
and the ability to really hear what's being said.
