Cville Neighborhood Celebrates ‘Belmont in the Park’

Posted: Updated:

Charlottesville is hoping an evening of free, family-friendly fun in the park will inspire neighborhood unity in the Belmont section of the city.

Charlottesville's Parks and Recreation Department put together the evening of entertainment for the neighborhood. Dozens of families and neighbors who live in Belmont came out for "Belmont in the Park" Saturday evening.

Children jumped in the spraygrounds and played games. Bands performed while organizers served up free food fresh off the grill.

Earius Clark lives just down the street from the festivities and brought his family and friends out to enjoy the evening with his neighbors.

"We've got a moon bounce over here, some music over there, food over there. Just bring the family and have fun, just have fun," Clark said.

Hydia Wood, who also lives in Belmont, said, "It's fun because you get to watch the kids play and it's safe."

The stormy skies couldn't stop the fun. Many of those families said they planned to stay until it rained or ended - whichever came first.

The neighborly get-together lasted four hours, ending at 8 p.m. One event organizer said he hopes the city will put on more neighborhood events like it.
