It's a race to the cure in Charlottesville, as an area club raises money for cancer, and the charity hits close to home for many of the members.

For the 14th year the Fairview Swim and Tennis Club has been putting on the charity race that benefits the American Cancer Society. This year, more than 200 runners are expected to join in.

The Fairview 5K is for people of all different ages and running abilities. It starts at the entrance of the club, near Rio Road and Route 29, and it's an out and back race around the neighborhood. Organizers hope to raise three or four thousand dollars for the American Cancer Society in honor of a couple of club members who died of cancer and left young families behind.

"So it's a great way to honor them and make a few dollars for a good cause and get everybody together," said Jim Neale, the race director.

The Fairview 5K is also a kickoff event for the Jefferson Swim League championship week for several teams in the area.

The race registration starts Saturday at 7:30 a.m. at Fairview Swim and Tennis Club on Belvedere Drive in Charlottesville. You can register on site, or online.
