Construction of YMCA at McIntire Park Still on Hold

Posted: Updated:

Construction of the new YMCA at Charlottesville's McIntire Park is on hold - at least for a few more months. Crews have not yet broken ground because the board of directors for the Piedmont Family YMCA is working out loan details.

The chairman says the city has approved its financial plan and now board members are deciding between a single bank loan or loans from several banks.

"We'd obviously like to start construction this afternoon if we could but it won't happen this afternoon, but we are hoping over the next couple of months that we'll be able to pull things together to pursue one of those two bank loan commitments and fund the construction loan and start construction," said Kurt Krueger, Piedmont Family YMCA Board of Directors chairman.

The deadline to break ground requires construction to start by January 15, 2014. Krueger says he hopes to start before then.
