Senator Tim Kaine is taking a page out of President Obama's playbook. He hosted his first social media town hall Wednesday afternoon, responding to constituent questions on Facebook and Twitter.
Six months into his term as Virginia's Junior Senator, Kaine kept things interesting during his social media town hall. Kaine answered questions on everything from the state of the economy and budget negotiations to immigration reform, and explained how he thinks lawmakers can cut through partisan gridlock by listening and building bridges.
On the more lighthearted side, he explained his humble beginnings as an amateur harmonica player.
He and fellow Virginia Senator Mark Warner also cracked some jokes, comparing a short, 140-character tweet to a long-winded filibuster on the Senate floor. And Kaine's office isn't stopping at Facebook and Twitter, it's even making forays into Instagram and perhaps even Vine - all good ways to connect with younger voters and others outside of mainstream channels.
Kaine says he's looking forward to doing another similar town hall soon.
