It's an excuse to put your wallet to use, while supporting a good cause. Next week marks seven days of Charlottesville shopping bargains that benefit an area nonprofit.

Charlottesville Shopping Week starts Monday. The goal is to boost the local economy, while also supporting a charity - the Charlottesville Albemarle SPCA.

Shoppers who donate $10 at participating stores will get 20 to 30 percent off selected items. Stores like The Virginia Shop and The Happy Cook will be participating.

The SPCA recently started doing dental care in-house, and the funds raised during the Charlottesville Shopping Week will go toward this new program.

"Dental care is so important to the overall health of your pet, just keeping their teeth healthy... it can be very painful if they have an infected tooth and it can impact their diet," said Lisa Lane, the director of marketing at the SPCA.

"Come out. Support us during Charlottesville Shopping Week," said Tiffany Smith, the owner of The Virginia Shop. "We're here for you guys. We can't wait to meet you guys, and we can't wait to help out all of these wonderful animals."

Event organizers say since many families are out of town on vacation in July this tends to be a slower retail period.

Charlottesville Shopping Week runs all next week.
