Governor Bob McDonnell's
son has been arrested in Charlottesville for being too drunk.
Police say 21-year-old Sean
McDonnell was arrested Saturday morning for public swearing and intoxication.
Authorities say the
incident happened on Wertland Street near Fourteenth Street, and that the
officer took McDonnell to jail due to his level of intoxication.
No other details are being
released, including his blood alcohol content.
"Whenever we take
someone into custody for public intoxication they are generally transported to
the Charlottesville-Albemarle Regional Jail and they're detained there," said
Lieutenant Ronnie Roberts, spokesman for the Charlottesville Police Department.
The charge is a
misdemeanor. Sean McDonnell is a rising fourth-year student at the University
The governor's press
secretary released a brief statement saying, "This is a personal matter
and is being addressed by the family."
Sean McDonnell will be in
court on August 12.
