Normally, children don't
have the chance to play in the mud without getting into trouble. But at the
Waynesboro Family YMCA Friday afternoon, adults hosted a Mud Day for them.
The campers, who ranged
from 3 to 12 years old, had a great time running through a series of obstacle
courses – and cooling off on a hot summer day.
The organizers put a trail
of one ton of topsoil at the back parking lot of the Y and spread mud out over
various pools and tarps.
The childcare director,
Rebecca Patton, said it was an activity the kids were really looking forward
"Mainly it's just for
the kids to have fun, a little bit of exercise, not video games. Getting a
little dirty and messy and just having fun," Patton said.
About 50 kids took part in
the event. They also had the chance to dig through the mess to find hidden
Last year, the Y hosted a Mud
Day for the preschoolers, but then the older kids wanted in on the fun.
