Overturned Vehicle in Charlottesville Sends Driver to Hospital
Date / Time
There were some very tense moments just after 7 p.m. Thursday night in Charlottesville when a taxicab overturned near the intersection of High Street and Meade Avenue.
It took some time for fire and rescue teams to pull the driver out of the wrecked mini-van. No one else was inside the cab at the time.
Police say they believe the driver, a 57-year-old man from Lovingston, may have had some kind of medical problem, because there are no skid marks.
Witness Barry Lambert told NBC29 what he saw. "Me and my friend Adam, we were standing where I live at the front porch and this SUV comes strolling - rolling down the road and within seconds: boom!" he said.
The driver was taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center. There's no word on his condition.
Police are still investigating how the crash happened.
CLARIFICATION: Previously, this story referred to Meade Street, but should have said Meade Avenue.
