Fluvanna County Artist Featured in "The Artist at Melrose"
Judith Mickelson displays work in "The Artist at Melrose"
A new book is celebrating a Fluvanna County artist and her love of history.
The Fluvanna Historical Society compiled the works of the late Ellen Miyagawa in "The Artist at Melrose." The book features her cross-stitch, paintings, and 72 sketches of historic scenes across Fluvanna.
The society's director, Judith Mickelson, says Miyagawa always wanted to see her drawings in one collection. "This book brings together the beauty of her ability to be a fine artist, her extraordinary ability to understand buildings - brick and mortar - the beautiful sense of the landscapes around them," she stated.
Miyagawa passed away in 2006. A grant from her husband allowed the society to put together and publish the book.
