The future of tennis is on display at the Glenmore Country Club in Charlottesville this week, for the USTA Sectional Tennis Tournament.
They suspended play in the middle of the semifinals due to rain Tuesday
The semifinals will resume at Wednesday at 8:30 AM, with the finals to follow.
Glenmore is hosting the Northeast Interregional Girls 12's Championship for the first time.
"It's a great honor," says Glenmore Director of Tennis Don Paitrick. "Glenmore has twelve clay courts, and it's just the facility, plus the prestige of the club."
Some of the best players from across fourteen states are in the main draw.
Paitrick says, "These girls have high aspirations to go to college, and some probably beyond. You'll probably see one or two of these girls playing on the pro level at some point in time."
The field started with twenty-two players, including the third-ranked 12-year-old in the nation.
Paitrick says, "The caliber of play here, these are the stars of the future. We've got players out here that our women members would have trouble beating."
