Fourth of July fireworks displays will light up the skies this week, but the Albemarle County Fire Department wants to make sure your fireworks don't spark any unsafe or illegal behavior.

The Albemarle County fire marshal is reminding people who plan to host holiday celebrations that legal fireworks in Virginia do not rise into the air, shoot across the ground, or explode.

"Want to make sure you're not near a house, want to make sure you have water nearby, want to make sure you have hearing and eye protection, you want to also make sure you don't allow kids to handle these. Even the sparklers, the tips of the sparklers are 1,200 degrees plus," Fire Marshal Howard Lagomarsino said.
