Bold Rock Hard Cider in Nelson County is celebrating its first anniversary with bold plans to expand.
The cidery had a birthday bash Saturday.
The first year was such a success, the Nellysford facility is beginning a $4 million expansion - which will allow Bold Rock to grow more apples and bottle more cider.
Co-owner Brian Shanks reflected on the most meaningful part of the business's first year.
"It's the reward of seeing people happy that's absolutely magic. That's I guess job satisfaction is seeing really happy people," he said.
About a thousand people attended Saturday's birthday party and sampled the different ciders Bold Rock produces.
Whole Foods grocery store - which sells the cider - also set up a tent.
The expansion should be finished early next year and open to the public in May.
