If you've ever thought about making your home more ‘green', Dominion Virginia Power is making things easier. The power company is launching a new solar purchasing program for customers - and spots are filling up quickly.
The energy program is available to Virginia businesses and homeowners that use solar panels.
Dominion will buy the energy produced from these sources at a premium all in an effort to promote these clean energy tools.
One Waynesboro-based business is already on board . Sigora Solar started two years ago and has installed panels all over central Virginia. They - and about 450 other customers with Dominion - will participate in the program.
The power company will buy the electricity generated from these buildings and it will transfer over to other customers in the green energy program.
Dominion and its representatives said the program is filling up quickly -190 have already applied since last Thursday - when the incentive launched.
This is a trial program for Dominion, so it is guaranteed only for five years. But if all goes well, the future for solar power in Virginia looks a little brighter.
