UVa Baseball Players Earn VaSID Awards

Sophomore Mike Papi was named the VaSID Player of the Year Sophomore Mike Papi was named the VaSID Player of the Year

Three Virginia players have been honored by the Virginia College Sports Information Directors.

Sophomore outfielder Mike Papi has been named the VaSID Player of the Year.  

Papi led the ACC with a .381 average, along with seven home runs and 57 RBI.

Closer Kyle Crockett is the Pitcher of the Year.  

Crockett had twelve saves and a 1.70 ERA

He was drafted by the Indians in the 4th round.  

Outfielder Joe McCarthy is the Rookie of the Year.  

The freshman hit .336 with 51 RBI.  

McCarthy was previously named the ACC Freshman of the Year.

Papi and Crockett were joined on the all-state first team by senior second baseman Reed Gragnani and sophomore Nick Howard at utility.

McCarthy was a second-team selection, as was sophomore shortstop Branden Cogswell, senior pitcher Scott Silverstein, and freshman relief pitcher Josh Sborz.
