Suspect in VA Chase Wanted for Baltimore Murder

Posted: Updated:

A Maryland man picked up at the beginning of June following a chase across two counties is wanted in connection to a murder.

Jonathan Woodard, who is already convicted of armed robbery, and allegedly led police on a cross-mountain chase with children in the back of the car earlier this month, is now wanted for gunning down a teenager in Baltimore.

Warrants detail what the suspect may have told his friend about a Baltimore city shooting that killed a teenager. It comes as much more about Jonathan Woodard's criminal past is coming to light.

A search warrant says Woodard is one of four men who emerged from an alley and started shooting at three people on Greenmount Avenue in the city of Baltimore. Police say witnesses and victims place Woodard at the scene. A surveillance picture shows the moment violence erupted along the street, and a person pointing a gun toward the street.

The warrant says Woodard admitted he shot up a city block in Baltimore and killed one of the people. Daniel Pearson, 16, died at the scene. Two others recovered from gunshot wounds.

Media reports indicate the Greenmount Avenue area was plagued by fights between the Bloods and Black Guerrilla Family gangs last year, but police won't confirm if the incident was gang-related.

Police arrested Woodard and another person following a chase earlier this month that started in Waynesboro. Woodard will have an extradition hearing Friday morning in Albemarle County General District Court for his alleged connection to the Baltimore murder. The other person involved in the car chase still faces charges in Albemarle for eluding police and accessory after the fact.

Meanwhile in Baltimore, another man has been charged for the murder and is awaiting a trial next month.
