Press Release

On Sunday, September 15, 2013, country music legend Willie Nelson will headline a benefit concert for Local Food Hub at the nTelos Wireless Pavilion. His son's band, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real, will open the show.

Born in 1933, Willie Nelson grew up in a Texas farm town and spent childhood hours picking cotton, pulling corn, and baling hay. Since those formative years as a Future Farmer, Willie has become a long-time advocate and supporter of family farms, and went on to co-found Farm Aid in 1985 with fellow musicians John Mellencamp and Neil Young. Nelson continues to promote awareness about the loss of family farms in America and to raise funds to keep farm families on their land.

Local Food Hub Executive Director Kristen Suokko says, "This benefit concert is a tremendous opportunity for Local Food Hub to not only raise funds for our mission, but to also raise awareness about the importance of family farmers and local food to our community. Willie's lifelong connection and dedication to agriculture is an inspiration to all of us at Local Food Hub. We are thrilled to have his support."

Founded in 2009, Local Food Hub is an innovative nonprofit working to support family farms and increase community access to local food. The organization provides services that enable small farms to successfully sell their locally grown fruit, vegetables, meat, eggs, and value-added items to large markets like public schools, hospitals, restaurants, and grocery stores. Local Food Hub also focuses on farmer education and equitable access to fresh healthy food for community members at all income levels. The organization has received national attention for its innovative work.

Sponsor packages include Lower Orchestra seats, Parking and admission to a pre-concert Sponsor Party. For more information about sponsorships and pricing, visit Local Food Hub's website at www.localfoodhub.org or contact Emily Manley at emily@localfoodhub.org.
