Shooting in Harrisonburg Leaves Woman in Critical Condition

On June 22, 2013 at roughly 3:21PM, officers with the Harrisonburg Police Department began responding to a shots fired incident on John Tyler Circle, in an apartment complex known as The Overlook. Responding officers quickly identified witnesses and narrowed the area of the shooting to the vicinity of 662 John Tyler Circle.

Separately, the victim of the shooting, a 22 year old Harrisonburg woman, arrived at RMH then was flown to the UVA Medical Center for treatment of gunshot wounds. She was in critical, but stable condition at last report. HPD investigators, officers and K9 officers immediately launched a thorough investigation. Within hours, three Harrisonburg men were arrested in connection with the shooting.

Nicholas Dixon, 20, of Harrisonburg, was charged with aggravated malicious wounding (18.2-51.2), the use of a firearm in commission of aggravated malicious wounding (18.2- 53.1) and maliciously shooting at an occupied motor vehicle (18.2-154). Marquis Veney, 20, and Shaquille Wheeler, 20, both of Harrisonburg, were each charged with one count of accessory after the fact (18.2-19).

A woman is in critical condition at the University of Virginia Medical Center Saturday night after a shooting in Harrisonburg. Police say the woman was in a car that was shot at while driving away from the 600 block of John Tyler Circle around 4 p.m. Saturday. Investigators aren't sure what led up to the shooting and do not have a suspect. If you have any information that can help police, call Crime Solvers at 540-574-5050.

The Harrisonburg Police Department is currently investigating a malicious wounding involving a firearm. The incident occurred near the 600 block of John Tyler Circle. At approximately 4 p.m.

Officers were call to John Tyler circle for a report of shots fired. At the scene officers interviewed witnesses and confirmed that a weapon was discharged at a vehicle as it left the area. Officers continued to investigate and found that there was one female victim involve.

The victim  was able to transport herself to the Rockingham Memorial Hospital, but later flown to UVA. According  to medical staff the victim currently is in critical but stable condition. There is no suspect information available at this time.

The victim information is being held pending next of kin notification.
