Posted: Updated:

UPDATE: According to Lt. Ronnie Roberts of the Charlottesville Police Department, on Sunday at 3 p.m. Richard Hawkins III was taken into custody by the Augusta County Sheriff's Office without incident. He is currently incarcerated in the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.

The man accused of robbing a bank on Charlottesville's downtown mall is no stranger to the criminal justice system. Richard Hawkins, III is still on the run Friday.

Hawkins has a pretty lengthy history when it comes to his criminal past.

Hawkins was found guilty of grand larceny and petit larceny in Albemarle in 2010.

He was also involved in a civil case in Augusta County in 2003, and was found guilty of possession of marijuana in Staunton in 2011.

He became a fugitive in 2012.

Hawkins - who also goes by the alias "Squirrel" - is wanted for Monday's United Bank robbery on the downtown mall. Police named him as the prime suspect Thursday.

A Charlottesville cab company owner said the suspect made his escape in the pouring rain by taking a taxi.

Hawkins should not be approached. If you have any information that can help lead police to Hawkins call Crime Stoppers at 434-977-4000. All calls are kept confidential.
