Businesses and communities in the valley are busy collecting funds and food for the Governor's Bowl Challenge. The challenge is a friendly competition between regions to stockpile food for the many Americans facing hunger.

Gold's Gym of Staunton is running incentives for members and non-members to donate. You can work out there for a month free of charge, and the regulars get a bit of pampering – like free tanning and HydroMassage.

"Everybody remembers to donate to the food bank around the holidays, but they don't always remember in the summertime, and there are people and families in need all year round," said Rhonda Horton, general manager at  Gold's Gym in Staunton.

Last year, the greater Augusta Regional Chamber of Commerce won the competition.

To support the cause, get your collections in by Independence Day.
