Overturned Truck Causes Portion of Rt. 20 to Close
Overturned truck at Scottsville Road and Irish Road
Route 20 closed in both directions for about seven hours on Friday. A construction truck overturned on Scottsville Road near Irish Road Friday morning.
The accident sent one person to the hospital, forced commuters to take a detour and left businesses in the dark.
Fire officials on the scene say just before 6 a.m. Friday a construction truck ran off Scottsville Road. Police say the truck was going southbound when one of the tires went off the road, sending the truck off a hill.
Police say the truck took out a power pole. Businesses in Scottsville were left without power for several hours.
"We've lost a lot of business today. I mean, things happen. Gentleman got hurt, hopefully he didn't get hurt that bad. But we lost breakfast and we're running into lunch now and we don't expect to have power back for quite a while," said David Jenkins, owner of The Diner.
Jenkins says he lost hundreds of dollars in business Friday but that pales in comparison to the fact that someone was hurt.
Police say the construction truck's driver was taken to University of Virginia Medical Center, but there's no word on the driver's condition.
The driver has been charged with reckless driving.
Scottsville Road is currently back open after being closed for seven hours and power was restored to businesses around 1 p.m.
