James River Batteau Festival Floats to Scottsville
The people of Scottsville are getting a hands-on history lesson Wednesday night. The James River Batteau Festival has made its way down the river to Scottsville.
The festival is an eight-day event that showcases the old cargo boats that used to transport tobacco and other products up and down the James River.
You can enjoy the batteaus, music and even some dancing.
"We're trying to pass on the history to the next generations and this festival started in 1985. It's going on 29 years and we hope that it goes on for another 129. I'd like to see my great grandkids down here someday," said Charlie Hatcher, organizer for the Batteau Festival.
The Batteau Festival runs until 10 p.m. in Scottsville. From there, it will move on to the slate river in Fluvanna County.
