MEDIA RELEASE

The Waynesboro Police Department has arrested a local couple on drug related crimes after a traffic stop at local gas station last week.

James Douglas Cason, 58 years old, of Waynesboro and Ashley Marie Grant, 27 years old, of Stuarts Draft face charges.

On June 12, 2013 at approximately 6:35 PM, members of the WASP regional drug task force were in the area of East Main St when one of them recognized Cason, who was wanted on an Augusta County Circuit Court capias for probation violations, driving a Mitsubishi Montero.  Aided by deputies from the Augusta County Sheriff's Office, they conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle on the Hess gas station, 780 E Main St.

A search of his vehicle yielded two additional felony charges for Cason including driving after being declared an habitual offender and possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute.

Grant, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was charged with a single felony of possession of methamphetamine.

Cason is being held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail.  Grant was released on bond.
