The Charlottesville Police Department is getting a new K-9 officer.
Monday the private foundation that supports the department announced it has raised $12,000, which will pay for the animal and training for both the dog and its handler.
Police use K-9s to help track suspects, drugs and evidence. They're also used for crowd control and to search for missing people.
The department used to have two K-9s but one has retired.
