Months of delays on the Route 29 Western Bypass Project could add millions of dollars to the project's price tag.
An estimate done in February found even a 90-day delay could tack on up to $4.7 million to the total.
The Virginia Department of Transportation is currently working with the contractor to find places to cut costs. The contractor expected to receive permission to get started in January.
Part of the reason for the delay is VDOT is still waiting for federal approval of an environmental reassessment.
