Top 100 Prep Point Guard Jalen Brunson Targeted by UVa
A lot of eyes are on point guard Jalen Brunson at the NBPA Top 100 Camp. He's a big-time prospect with ties to Charlottesville and UVa.
He's showing all the moves that make him a top college prospect. Jalen Bruson led his team with 20 points Thursday night in an NBPA top-100 game. The 5-foot-11 point guard is rated a 4-star prospect by Rivals.
Brunson says, "I really try not to focus on all the schools, I try to focus on how I'm doing as a player and trying to get better. The biggest reason they want me is because I'm playing well on the court, I can't be satisfied, I have to keep working at it."
Brunson now lives in Illinois but he spent three years in Charlottesville when his dad, Rick Brunson, worked as UVa's Director of Basketball Operations. Back then Brunson was a rising star at Buford Middle School.
Brunson says, "We had the most wins in school history I think we had one loss, I remember Charlottesville especially all the people who helped me, my coach is out here watching me right now. I have a lot of memories here, being a ball boy when my dad was coaching here, running around help the players out during the Sean Singletary days."
Brunson has offers from several schools including Illinois, Purdue and Xavier and says his ties to UVa doesn't give Virginia an advantage in the recruiting war but he likes Virginia coach Tony Bennett.
Brunson says, "I met coach Bennett, he's a really nice guy, as he's recruited me we've formed a good relationship, we've talked about things other than basketball. I'm looking for a coach that will help me later in life because that's really what I'm coming to college for."
