Waynesboro School Board Meeting
Paying for a major renovation to Kate Collins Middle School in Waynesboro has been contentious for city leaders - but now they're moving forward. City Council voted Monday to approve a joint resolution, and on Tuesday the school board voted 'yes' to the resolution.
In the resolution, the school board pays just over $150,000 a year with the city paying the same. School board chair Jeremy Taylor calls it a true compromise.
"They have definitely extended an olive branch. And they're trying to meet us half way. I think we need to recognize that and appreciate that. And I think the brutal bottom line, as it always is, is that the school board cannot raise a penny itself," said Taylor.
Taylor says City Council is making the first payment and setting up a reserve fund to help the school board make future payments.
