CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -

Cici's Pizza in Charlottesville is honoring area firefighters until it closes on Monday. It's celebrating its first Firefighter Appreciation Day.

"Here at Cici's we really want to get out into the community and let people come in and see what we're all about. We're here for them and we appreciate them, and that's what today is about. We started with the firefighters,” said Kim Ryan, marketing and event coordinator for Cici’s.

Current firefighters and their families can enjoy a free meal.

"We don't do this job looking for any kind of praise; we do it because we love it. And when we do get that thanks it really goes a long way with the guys and girls that work at the fire department,” said Chief Richard Jones of the Charlottesville Fire Department.

The Charlottesville Fire Department will give children a tour of one of its fire trucks until 7 p.m.

Cici's says it plans to honor other service workers throughout the year.
