A Charlottesville City Council candidate hosted a community cookout Saturday with a focus on his campaign to move the city forward.

Wes Bellamy held a "Come Together Day" at Lee Park to bring neighbors from different parts of Charlottesville together.  Dozens of people turned out for music, food, and games.

Bellamy says everyone needs to work together to improve the city.

"One of the things that I often see is a lack of community engagement and involvement and that's what I plan to bring to the table and bring to council - a feeling and a movement in which everyone in the city can work together because I know that I have the energy to do so and I know we can get it done," said Bellamy.

Bellamy says he plans to continue holding these community days whether he's elected or not. He also encouraged the crowd to come out and vote during Tuesday's Democratic primary.
