Police officers escorted
the Special Olympics torch from the valley to Albemarle County Thursday
The annual law enforcement
run wound its way through Augusta County, Staunton and Waynesboro, and up Afton
Mountain. Statewide, more than 2,000 officers took part in the relay to carry
the Flame of Hope.
The run finishes in Richmond
and helps raise money for this weekend's Special Olympics games. In Waynesboro,
runner Mike Meadows said he hopes to run all the way to the end.
"Win or lose, you
have to have a good time. I don't care if you get fifth place or second place. Just
out there to have a good time and have fun," he said.
More than 200 agencies are
participating in the eight-day journey. The games kick off Saturday.
