The Kroger grocery store at Barracks Road Shopping Center is at the very beginning of a $2.6 million renovation.
The biggest change will be adding a pharmacy and a walk-up window. The pharmacy will add 10 new jobs at the store.
Kroger says it will remodel the entire store and expand the deli, cheese shop, wine department and sushi bar.
The work should be done by November. The location will stay open throughout the renovation process.
ROANOKE, VA. (June 6, 2013—Kroger has begun a major renovation of its Barracks Road Shopping Center store in Charlottesville, adding a pharmacy. Kroger will invest $2.65 million in the project and create 10 jobs for a total employment of approximately 160 associates at the store. The pharmacy will include a walk-up window.
The 47,000 square-foot store will undergo a complete remodeling with a new décor and expanded Deli Bistro, deli-bakery, nutrition, Gourmet Cheese Shop, Nature's market and Sushi Bar. The wine cellar also will be upgraded.
The remodeling is scheduled to be completed in November to allow the store to remain open and serve customers as conveniently as possible. The store is open 24 hours a day. Kroger also has stores in Charlottesville at Rio Hill Center and at Emmett and Hydraulic Road.
Kroger operates 120 stores in the Mid-Atlantic region, which includes Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina and the eastern portions of Tennessee, Kentucky and Ohio, from its headquarters in Roanoke.
