A former student at the University of Virginia's College at Wise has admitted to falsely reporting a gunman on campus earlier this year.

Bryant Hairston from Martinsville entered his guilty plea Friday in federal court.

Hairston pleaded guilty to two counts of making false statements.

Police say Hairston called 911 and reported seeing a gunman on campus back in January 23. The bogus report prompted the university to put the school on lockdown.

When he's sentenced in September 9, Hairston faces up to 10 years in prison.

However, prosecutors are asking for a minimal sentence for the hoax.
