UNC-Wilmington's Tyler Molinaro Ready for an NCAA Baseball Homecoming
Former Albemarle High School baseball star Tyler Molinaro makes his return to Charlottesville this week playing for UNC-Wilmington in the NCAA Tournament's Charlottesville Regional.
Molinaro is in his senior season with the UNC-Wilmington. He's batting fourth in the lineup and leads the team with 11 home runs. He's batting .249 with 33 RBI.
He was drafted in the 15th round by the New York Yankees a couple years ago after two years at Pitt Community College but elected to play college ball.
He says he's looking forward to a homecoming of sorts this week playing in Charlottesville.
"To have a chance to go back there and play in front of friends and family that have never had the chance to come down to North Carolina and watch me play is special. I'm really excited about the field we got too, I think we have a chance to do some damage there as well so it's a great place to be and I'm extatic to go back."
Molinaro's UNC-Wilmington team earned an at-large berth into the NCAA Touranament with a record of 37-21.
Molinaro adds, "Lately I've just tried to take a step back and use this time for what could possibly be my last time on a baseball field with these guys. I've been in a pretty good place mentally for the last month or so I'm going to carry that over there (NCAA Tournament) and just enjoy the moment, that's all you can do at a time like this. Enjoy the time with your brothers here in the remaining time you have on a baseball field."
