A man pleaded guilty Tuesday to trying to abduct a University of Virginia student last fall.
Matthew Beaulieu, 27, appeared in Charlottesville Circuit Court and admitted that he tried to take the victim by force because he wanted someone to be with and take his aggression out on. He also admitted he intended to keep her for a few days, scare her with his knife and then release her by throwing her out of his car.
The victim initially reported in a 911 call that a man grabbed her on Stadium Road. That same evening, authorities were able to stop the car Beaulieu was driving and identify him based on the victim's description of the car and a logo on his hoodie, despite the fact he was wearing a ski mask.
In court Tuesday, an officer testified to finding handcuffs, nylon restraints, a knife and duct tape in the vehicle.
Beaulieu will remain in jail and will be sentenced on August 7. He faces 20 years to life.
