A woman is recovering and two men are behind bars after a shooting in Orange County Thursday. According to police an argument led to an assault and later a shooting.
Police say it all started as an argument at the Oakbrook Terrace Apartments in Orange, and the shooting happened around 9:30 p.m. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to her lower back.
When police arrive on the scene the suspects were nowhere to be found. Town of Orange Police Chief James Fenwick says bloodhounds couldn't help because a heavy rain passed through the area, but eventually the suspects, 21-year-old Darrell Milton and 18-year-old William Wells, both from Orange County, came forward.
"They were actually contacted and actually came forward to speak with officers and at that point were interviewed and then charges were placed against them," he stated.
Milton and Wells are facing a number of charges (see below). They are being held without bond in the Central Virginia Regional Jail.
Chief Fenwick says the victim was treated and released from a hospital Friday morning but has since gone back to a different hospital to receive additional treatment. She is expected to recover.
The Orange County Sheriff's Office, Culpeper County Sheriff's Office and Virginia State Police responded to the shooting.
