#5 UVa Baseball Falls 10-1 Against VA Tech In ACC Tournament Opener
UVa Coach Brian O'Connor
The #5 Virginia baseball team lost 10-1 against Virginia Tech in its first game in the ACC Tournament Wednesday in Durham, NC.
The Hokies are the 6-seed in the tournament, and have beaten the 3-seed Cavaliers in 3-of-4 meetings this year.
VA Tech sent eleven batters to the plate in the 2nd inning, scoring six runs, to jump out to the early lead.
UVa answered with an RBI triple by Kenny Towns in the bottom of the inning, scoring Reed Gragnani, but that was all the 'Hoos could muster.
The Hokies' Chad Pinder hit a grand slam in the 6th inning, his second home run of the day, to put the game out of reach.
UVa head coach Brian O'Connor says, "I look at our season, and we're 45-10. 45-9 going into the tournament. We've won more games that anybody in this league, conference games. It doesn't matter that it's Virginia Tech. That's for the media to write about, about a rivalry. They beat us three times this year. It doesn't matter if it's them, or someone else in this conference. It's nothing that they're doing, they just played good baseball against us. That's it."
Virginia will play Georgia Tech in their second game of the tournament Thursday at 11 am.
