Wednesday night, there is more information about a shooting that killed a 10-year-old girl.
It happened Tuesday in Crozet, but the details aren't coming from police; they're coming from the girl's family.
Social media is also telling part of the story - a tragedy no parent can even imagine living through: Maggie Hollifield killed in what her family is calling a horrible accident.
The family came out with this information online Wednesday, asking everyone for their prayers and to understandably respect their privacy at this time.
Tuesday at 10 a.m., the call went out for help. Albemarle County police say a 14-year-old boy shot Maggie and killed her on the 1400 block of McAllister Street. Albemarle County police remained on the scene for several hours to conduct their investigation.
Neighbors say the shooting happened at a home behind the Open Door Ministry Center.
Maggie's father Paul is the pastor at Commonwealth Christian Community Church, formerly Victory Hill Church of God, in Crozet.
All day long family, friends and church members came to show their support just feet from where Maggie was killed. Social media has exploded with heartfelt messages of love and prayers from those touched by the tragedy. A Facebook page is already set up in their honor, to remember a little girl who once played soccer and spent time with a family who will no doubt miss her forever.
Wednesday morning, Albemarle police said that new information was going to be released in the form of a press release. However, around 4:30 p.m., they sent out a note to media outlets stating they would not be releasing any new information about the case.
Police say the case is not closed. Investigators want to consult with the commonwealth's attorney in the next few days to find out the next step.
The next step for the family is the funeral. A graveside service will be held Friday, May 24 in Amelia. There will be a visitation from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Covenant Church in Charlottesville, followed by a memorial service.
