The Jefferson Area Tea Party took part in a national wave of protests Tuesday against the IRS's targeting of conservative groups.
Tea party members and others gathered for a "Rein in the IRS" rally at the Free Speech Wall on the downtown mall in Charlottesville. A smaller group went to the Charlottesville IRS office to deliver a notice of its concerns beforehand.
The area Tea Party's chairwoman, Carole Thorpe, says they want to make sure these actions don't happen to another organization.
"This isn't good for any American. It just happens to happening to us right now, but this is a broader concern of what we talk about at the Tea Party all the time. We talk about federal overreach, we talk about abuse of power, and this is definitely a class A example of it," Thorpe said.
The Jefferson Area Tea Party says it wasn't targeted by the IRS.
