Virginia Department of Transportation Press Release
CULPEPER — On Monday, May 20, the Virginia Department of Transportation will close the McCormick Road bridge over Route 29 Business (Emmet Street) at the University of Virginia.
The closure allows VDOT and contractor Corman Construction Inc. to replace the aged bridge, which is currently posted with an eight-ton weight limit. The bridge will reopen in late July.
Message boards and detour signs for vehicles have been posted by VDOT, and U.Va. has established alternate routes for pedestrians during the closure.
The project also requires the closure of Emmet Street on the nights of May 21 and 22. Crews will work from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night to demolish the existing bridge.
Another two-night closure will occur in mid-June to install the new bridge's beams.
